File transfer over the Internet could be insecure. An attacker may be able to access valuable or sensitive data merely by monitoring a network.
To prevent unauthorized people from accessing your software it is advisable to use some form of encryption. PGP (or Pretty Good Privacy) is an application for secure file encryption. It is thought to be the most widely used and trusted encryption software.
